Didier Cuche's new career? Swiss Ski Charity Golf Tournament! - Behind the Scenes - Mens & Womens
It's no secret that many skiers are also avid golfers, but at the end of June the Swiss Ski ones decided to put their skills up to good use. The backdrop of the event -- a stunning golf course built in 1906, and now considered to be one of the most beautiful courses in the Alps. A wide range of athletes, staff and supporters of Swiss Ski came together for a day of fun at the golf course. The occasion was the annual Swiss Ski Charity Golf Tournament, an event designed to collect funds for the youngest divisions of the federation. And if the great purpose of the event might not have been a good enough reason to head out and hit some golf balls, the facts that the Golf Club Crans-sur-Sierre course is the same one where the European Masters are played and provides a view to the Matterhorn and the Mont Blanc certainly served as additional motivation. From Didier Cuche who earned an honorary membership at the Club after winning a World Cup super-G race in Crans Montana in 2012 and has been playing a fair share of golf since retiring from skiing to the three Gisin siblings, Michelle, Marc and Dominique who have been playing golf since childhood, everyone seemed to be having a blast. The final results were secondary to the fact that 100'000 Swiss Francs were raised and will help new generations of skiers develop within Swiss Ski. The FIS Alpine Ski World Cup is the top international circuit of Alpine Skiing competitions staged annually. It is considered the premier competition in alpine ski racing together with the quadrennial Olympic Winter Games and the biennial FIS Alpine World Ski Championships. Some experts event consider winning the World Cup to be athletically a more valuable title than winning gold at the Olympic Winter Games or the World Championships, since it requires a competitor to ski at an extremely high level in several events throughout the season, and not just in one race. Today, the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup races are held primarily at famous ski resorts in the European Alps, along with regular stops in Scandinavia, North America, and Far East Asia. Competitors attempt to score a maximum of points during the season in five events: slalom, giant slalom, super-G, downhill and super combined. The fifth event, super-combined, was introduced in 2005 and generally consists of a shorter downhill race and a one-run slalom. Sometimes the downhill is replaced by a super-G. Through its 116 member nations, more than 6'500 FIS ski and snowboard competitions are staged annually.
